1999 – USA

In December, 1999, I had a short stop in New York, while travelling for my job.

I went up to the top of the World Trade Center to enjoy the spectacular view from there.

Sahara

1999 – Tunisia

Spring vacation to the coast of Tunisia with my boyfriend, Erik, from 4 to 10 May, 1999. Besides swimming in the Mediterranean, we also travelled around the country.
Hammamet

We stayed in Hammamet, a tourist infected town at the north-eastern coast of Tunisia.

Tunis and Carthage

From Hammamet, we made a day-trip to Tunis by train. Just outside the capital of Tunisa is the remains of the old Carthage.

We also hired a car and travelled all the way south to Sahara - about 12 hours of driving. There were several very interesting places on the way.

1996 – Central and Eastern Europe

In August 1996, I spent about two weeks travelling throgh Europe by car with some fellow students from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration.
Italy

We started by driving from Bergen to Oslo, then going by ferry to Kiel in Germany, and then driving more or less non-stop until we arrived in Italy.

After a night in expensive Venice, we decided to travel east, where everything is cheaper.

Hong Kong

1993 – Hong Kong, Macao and China

In September 1993, while I was working as a UN soldier in Somalia, I travelled to Hong Kong, Macao and China.

Most of the time we spent in Hong Kong, which was a British colony until 1997.

We made one day-trip to Macao, just so that we had been there before the Portugese colony would be handed back to China in 1999.

We made a two day trip to Guangzhou in China. We travelled by boat one way and train the other.

Mumbai

1993 – India

In 1993 I travelled to India with a fellow soldier who also wanted to get away from Somalia for a while. We stayed in Bombay (later renamed Mumbai) and then went on to the former hippie paradise of Goa, now a more family friendly holiday destination.
Bombay

Bombay is the capital of the state of Maharashtra, and one of the most populous cities in the world. It is the commercial and entertainment center of India.

Goa

Goa is the smallest (in terms of area) state in India, located just south of Maharashtra. The state is renowned for its beaches, and was earlier a popular destination for hippies.

1993 – Kenya

While working as a UN soldier in Somalia, I went on many shorter trips to neighbouring Kenya.

1992-94 – Somalia

From December 1992 until March 1994 I was working as a UN soldier in Mogadishu, Somalia. The United Nations Operation in Somalia (UNOSOM) was established to end war and starvation, and counted about 30,000 soldiers from all over the world.

The Norwegian mission numbered 74 soldiers to start with, and was doubled after 6 months.

1991 – Poland

Together with a Norwegian classmate and friend, I stayed in Poland for a month to participate at an English language course in for Polish students. After the course, we traveled around the country.
Puławy

UNESCO organized a summer camp for Polish students in Puławy. I was there 3 weeks as a teacher's assistant.
