I was three days in Chile, and visited Santiago, Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. I really loved what I managed to see of this country, and have decided to go back there later.
My visit to Chile started and ended in the capital, Santiago. I was very positively surprised by this lovely city.
A two hours bus ride from Santiago, Valparaíso is situated on the Pacific coast. While the President and most other governmental functions are located in Santiago, Valparaíso is the seat of the Chilean Congress.
Viña del Mar is only ten kilometers north of Valparaíso, and this city is most famous for its beaches. This is a modern city with many hotels, and many tourists from both Chile and the neighbouring countries.
I stayed over a week in Brazil, most of the time in Rio de Janeiro, but I also visited São Paulo and Foz do Iguacu.
I stayed six days in Rio de Janeiro. Most of the time I spent on the beach, but I also went to the top of the Corcovado mountain with its famous Christ statue, Cristo Redentor.
I had a short stop of only one day in São Paulo, and spent most of the time walking around in this city of 20 million inhabitants.
While on a vacation in South America in November, 2001, I made a quick trip to the border town of Ciudad del Este in Paraguay.
Ciudad del Este is the second largest city in Paraguay, and it is located just across the border from Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil.
I wanted to spend some days at the beach, and travelled to Montevideo. That turned out to be a bit of a mistake. The beach was the worst one I have ever seen.
Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, is situated on the northeastern bank of the Río de la Plata.
In November 2001, I had a three weeks vacation in South America.
The trip started and ended in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. I was in the city three times during the vacation.
I also travelled to the Iguazu Falls at the far Northern part of Argentina, close to the city Puerto Iguazu. These falls are among the most impressive in the world.
